Jaw & TMD treatment

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is a condition affecting the movement of the jaw and can lead to extreme pain. The condition is not life-threatening but the pain can be difficult to manage and a persons’ quality of life can be severely impacted.

What are the symptoms of TMD?
You may experience intense pain in your chewing muscles or jaw joint, your face or neck and in or around your ears and you are possibly suffering from headaches and migraines.

You may have restricted jaw movement, painful jaw clicking when opening or closing your mouth and there may be a change in the way your upper and lower teeth fit together.

If you have any of the symptoms associated with TMD then make sure to mention this at your next visit to your dentist.

What causes TMD?
Excessive teeth grinding or jaw clenching are a very common cause. This can severely damage the teeth and cause a series of painful symptoms.

What treatment is available?
CerezenTM is a new innovative medical device that targets the source of your symptoms. It does not have the many drawbacks of the traditional treatment of wearing a bite splint. The customised device is inserted into your ear canal and can be used during the night or day.

What is the science behind CerezenTM?
When you move your jaw, your ear canal also opens and closes. As the ear canal is so close to the temporomandibular joint, it is the perfect place to target the source of your symptoms.

Cerezen is a discrete custom made 3D printed hollow insert that sits in each ear canal. When inserted the Cerezen device is practically invisible but it will retain the shape of your ear canal in the open jaw position. They effectively encourage your jaw to return to an “open bite” position, reducing the grinding and clenching and the pain relief is profound.
